It’s a campy concept very much in the vein of Kevin Smith: a married couple (Arthur Laurie and Tracy O’Connor) move into a seemingly nice house, number 664 Styx Street, in a quiet neighborhood on Halloween…it doesn’t take them long to find out that their neighbor, living in number 666, is actually the Devil. Satan. But he likes to be called Lou.

This could have been a one-off, funny little video, the sort that Charles Trippy or Lisa Nova make, but the Lazyhorde Production team have taken the idea and created 20 very clever and very watchable episodes out of it over the past year. Now with season 1 finished, you can watch the whole thing back-to-back and some outtakes on Youtube.

As you can see, the lighting in this first episode isn’t all that great – but this gets cleared up by episode 3. But right from the opening credits (a take on Iron Maiden’s “666- Number of the Beast“) you can tell that this is going to be a witty show.

The whole season is clever and the dialogue almost never disappoints as we get to know more about Lou (played by Tony DeMauro), who just wants to be taken for an average guy and who likes a few beers and playing poker with the neighbors – despite having some lost souls locked up in his basement. The acting, for an amateur project like this, is actually pretty good. In fact, I’d say it’s better than some of the crap that is currently popular on Youtube.

What I don’t get is why more people aren’t tuned into this fun show. A quick look at the Youtube stats will show that the show has barely registered and this seems to be the only distribution channel for the show (perhaps iTunes, too?). In any case, it’s a classic example of good content getting lost in the sea of online video. It’s a good show and more people should be aware of it.

This hidden gem is an easy 4 out of 5 stars. More People should be watching this one.
