In my recent review about the new online video series DELETED: the Game I mentioned that I was really excited about what they were doing with their show, particularly their use of social networking sites, user interaction and forums to enrich the user experience.
My one complaint was that the sound mix for their first webiside was originally kinda sucky. I just got a comment from the producers today letting me know that they had re-mastered the the first episode. It is now much cleaner and sharper, so there can be no more complaints about the sound. It’s in good shape.
I still enjoy the what I’ve seen so far and if some folks don’t enjoy (or get ) the concept, it’s more their loss than ours. This is gonna be good stuff – so stay tune, gentle reader.
Surprisingly, the DELETED team did mention that they are hoping the Gemini Division does well online since its the first big budget test-balloon form traditional media outlets and will have a big influence on the medium. Too true!
If you’ve not checked out DELETED: the Game, I would suggest that you do so – the second episode is out Tuesday – (tomorrow, my time). And you can check out Gemini Division here.

Thanks for the update. Still think the audio could be better, but that won’t stop me from digging in to Deleted: The Game. I realize that these are different types of projects, with different types of budgets, and different levels of a/v experience. I like that they both are pushing the edge and developing new media content.
Perhaps I can recruit Deleted: The Game to help me solve some codes at the end of some of the Gemini Division Trailers. @admin – Would be good to have your help as well. Thanks for linking me to Deleted.

Hi Tim,
thanks for the many comments, I do appreciate the contributions.
I am and have been a little skeptical concerning your motivations as regard promoting Gemini Division. I’ve left your comments and links up on the blog simply because I don’t think that I’ve given the show a fair chance yet. Also I didn’t initially realizes that there was an ARG with Gemini Division as well as with DELETED:the Game, so thank you for pointing that out!
That being said, it’d be really interested to hear your opinion on other shows that you are enjoying besides Gemini Division.

Thanks for the response. I have yet to delve into a full fledged hard-core ARG. Deleted: The Game would be my first. I have been wandering around in the “shallows” so to speak with Heroes Evolutions and Afterworld, and maybe soon the Lost ARG. I consider these types of interactive experiences to be ARG-lite. Gemini Division fits into this category. I consider Deleted: The Game I consider to be hardcore ARG.
I interact with another blogger Aaron Smith (Asmedia). He has a really interesting breakdown of the Dark Knight ARG (I would consider this hardcore ARG) and transmedia story telling in general. I think you would really like it.
A bit about me and my motivation. I am absolutely a fan of EFE and Afterworld. I am a computer tech and I have worked at Mendocino College for the last 10 years.
If you look at AW’s worldwall forum you will see that I had a very good experience and really dug in to it. As a result I was invited to help out with the fan site by one of the other main forum participators. I did the forum design and all my work has been volunteer.
I along with Deleted: The game do want Electric Farm Entertainment to succeed. I believe they are really pushing the edge. I started up a blog about a couple of months ago. This was the result of the good experience that I had with Afterworld and my frustration with the cancellation of some of my favorite shows (Moonlight and October Road).
I put my own money out, bought hosting, and started blogging. I think you can see my motivation at my blog, particularly with the articles “Cancellation Fallout” and “A New Road”. The blog stemmed from my frustration with primetime networks and my desire for new media to succeed. My premise is that it is a Prime Time For Change.
In regard to sound, I noticed that the Gemini Division episodes that are streamed through the Scifi site sound very similar in regard to being robotic and tinny. I noticed that there is a significant difference in the audio streamed from NBC and Scifi’s site. Unfortunately at NBC you have to deal with commercials. I think the tinny, robotic sound of Deleted: The Game is the result of Youtube’s compression. I think it may be possible to make some adjustments at Youtube to improve Deleted’s audio (just the tech in me speaking).
Let me know if I didn’t make my motivation clear, or if you are interested in anything else. I think this is an exciting transitional time for new media. There is a lot to enjoy and thanks for pointing out Deleted: The Game.

Oh, I forgot. Not sure if it has an ARG, but this looks rather interesting: http://www.projectquantum.net/

@ Tim
I did indeed have a chance to look at Aaron’s blog – which I referenced off of a comment on one of your posts. I noticed some similarities in theme and topic in your blogs and found them both very interesting.
So much so that I’ll be doing an article about transmedia storytelling and ARG in specific. I shall be referring to some of your articles.
It truly is a fascinating topic and although it goes above and beyond my actual focus on this blog, I will want to bring attention to it.
BTW, many thanks for the project quantum tip. Seems very interesting so, I’ll be taking a closer look into it too.
thanks and looking forward to more valuable input from you!
