Ahh the life of an online video critic is tough. I have to cull the wheat from the chaff 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Sometimes it’s good to call in a little help, to find someone to give me some tips and clues about where to take my Internet back-alley sleuthing. After all there’s literally years worth of online video floating around out there and much of it is horrible!
Today I got a little tip, a nudge in the right direction from Daisy Whitney - a reporter who covers this stuff for a living and reports on it in articles and video-blogs for TVWeek.com (and whom I shall soon review!). Daisy has a kooky idea that once a week, anyone following her on Twitter can suggest a video for her to review and the first 5 entries win…Iknow, that’s a damn good idea. That’s why she does this stuff professionally and I’m still moonlighting from my regular job.
Anyhow, in her most recent review of submission she reviews a show called “Scam School“. It’s da bomb…what? we can’t say that anymore? Oooh…But seriously, it’s an amusing concept, executed very well by the host Brian Bushwood.
I know what you’re thinking…what’s with that guys hair?!? I know. I thought the same thing. But then, when you watch him doing his thing, his coiffed silliness tends to fade into the background and you start to appreciate what he’s saying and what he’s showing us. The guy’s an honest-to-god magician, soon to be playing packed houses in Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights.
So what’s he showing us in Scam School, what’s it all about? Ladies and gentlemen, Brain Bushwood is showing us nothing less than the secret to eternal happiness. That’s right, the shows about how to scam free drinks from people in bars by utilizing puzzles and tricks. Yeah, it’s pretty cool.
It’s a Revision3 show so you can bet your bottom dollar (little orphan Annies that you are) that the production values are good. Indeed, this show could be “regular” television fare – cable, not prime time. It does not suffer from poor editing or sound. The camera work is what you’d expect – in short, it looks like pro material.
Interestingly enough, Martin Sargent -that’s right THE INTERNET SUPERSTAR is an executive producer for the show and he just recently released an episode interviewing Brian.
My timing is all shot all to hell. I gotta learn how to break a story myself, without being 3 steps behind Daisy and Martin.
Anyhow, Brian currently has 20-something episodes up and if you interesting in learning how to “engineer” “social” situations to your drinking benefit – check him out.
the Bottom Line:
