Lots of big name folks are getting into our little online video crawlspace lately. Today it’s Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame taking his animated comedy antics to the web. The show is called “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy“. I like the title; you don’t get many “Cavalcades” in online video, so THAT at least is new!

I was never a regular viewer of the Family Guy, but even I can see the glaring obvious. The 50 shows planned and sponsored by Burger King are pretty much Family Guy, without the family…or that guy. If you liked the original, you’re bound to like this one (unless you’re sick to death of of the humor based on randomness).

If you’re not familiar with or didn’t like Family Guy, there’s chance that you might still enjoy this how. I think of what I’ve seen so far (it’s the first day so there’s only two episodes up) as very Gary Larson-esque…and I like it.

The shows are bite-sized, just enough for about one gag and that’s actually an advantage. You don’t get random-generator-based-humor-bloat (say that 3 times fast)…that is to say, where a full episode of Family Guy might make you numb to this brand of humor, a short gag in 3 minutes or less, will probably hit home more effectively and make you laugh.

There’s probably a lot to be said about the themes of: amateurs vs. professionals, about the monetization model of the shows, about Sartre, Nietzche and Kant…but I’m not going to say it. As a Web Couch-Potato, I just want to be entertained…and, so far, Seth’s Cavalcade does just that. Go see for yourself. It won’t bite.

the Bottom Line:

It’s only one day old with two shows live, but I’m giving Seth and his Cavacade 4 out of 5 stars for fair play and sportsmanlike conduct…and two shows that made me laugh.
