There’s been something on my mind for awhile, something that I’ve been hesitant to write about. With all the great press that Youtube is getting and all the homegrown web-stars being birthed there, not to mention all the influential people that have  a vested interest in Youtube, it’s kinda hard to step out of line and say…”the king has no cloths”.
I didn’t have the balls to say what I’ve been thinking:
  • although I love the idea of putting production into the hands of the masses, the great majority of their produced content SUCKS
  • The real talents on Youtube are being drowned out by the self-promotion of the talentless hacks, most of whom were early adopters and so were able to build audience share much easier
  • production values (yes, that means light and sound, but also how you edit your clip!) actually do matter, despite what many think. And if Youtube die-hards won’t accept that, they’ll die out like the dinosaurs. The masses are already trained by too many other media sources to expect decent video quality.
Yeah, well I didn’t have the balls to say it, so thanks Mikey Swaim for having the cojenes to say it yourself.
